Game Recap

60 yards? 60 yards! 60 YARDS! The Chicopee High defense held the Pittsfield High offense to a grand total of 60 yards to power the Pacers to a 7-0 win last night at historic Wahconah Park.

A nearly scoreless first half was broken with only 9 seconds left on the clock when Dylan Conover found Rodney Vazquez in the right side of the endzone. The Pacers needed to convert on multiple third down opportunities after taking over at the their own 45 to setup the Conover to Vazquez connection.

The Pacer defense then made the score standup by shutting down the Pittsfield High running game. The Generals collected all of 9 yards on 16 plays. The host passing game nearly as anemic, accounting for only 51 yards on 10 of 24 passes thanks to the strong pressure applied by the Pacer front seven.

Ricky Elmer aided in the PHS quarterback’s misery when he intercepted one of the few attempts that Pittsfield made to go deep. The offensive line managed to hold up against another Pacer pass rush but through into coverage where Elmer jumped in front of the PHS receiver and ran the ball back about 25 yards to midfield.

In total the Pacer defense only allowed the Generals to cross midfield 4 times. The last coming on the opening drive of second half which started at the Chicopee 45 and proceeded to move backwards and never returned.

The Pacers will continue their run of Berkshire County opponents Friday when they host Hoosac Valley at Szot Park at 7pm.
