The KEVS Foundation is hosting a heart screening event at Agwam High School on Friday. To participate students need to pre-register at the KEVS Foundation website.
The KEVS foundation was created to honor the memory of St. Mary’s High School Hockey player Kevin Majors who died in a boating accident at Congamond Lake in 2011. After his death it was discovered that he had Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) which contributed to his death. HCM is a very common and occurs if heart muscle cells enlarge and cause the walls of the ventricles (usually the left ventricle) to thicken. HCM is a common cause of sudden cardiac arrest in young people, including young athletes.
