The Chicopee High Boys Basketball team held on for a 59-55 victory over Westfield High School tonight, putting them one win away from a berth in the Western Mass Tournament. The win improves the team’s record to 9-7 on the season.
Ramon Jimenez led the Pacers with 15 points while Kobe Parker and Isaiah Haines contributed 13 and 11 respectively.
The Pacers built up a nine-point lead through three quarters but struggled to find an answer for the Bombers press in the fourth, allowing the Bombers to pull ahead by a point with about 6 minutes remaining.
After trading baskets and the lead for a few minutes, the Pacers found themselves up by two with 30 seconds left in regulation. Needing a stop to preserve the win, it was the sophomore star guard, Parker who stepped up. A Westfield player put up a three from the left elbow that Parker lept from just outside the lane and met the line drive shot at the peak of his jump for a loud block. Parker then recovered the rebound and streaked to the hole for the clinching basket.
The Pacers will next be on the court on Thursday as they will host East Longmeadow. The JV game will tip at 5:30 pm and the varsity game will follow around 7 pm.
