The Chicopee High School Ice Hockey team came away with a 7-6 victory in a high scoring affair with Enfield High School this evening. Senior Ryan McDonough continued his hot hand, recording a hat-trick and his fifth multi-goal game of the season.
Enfield opened the scoring with a goal with around nine minutes left in the first period but the Pacers then responded with three goals of their own. The first was scored by Spencer Clark and assisted by Mike Palermo and Dom Gallant. About 25 seconds later Andre Gallant lit the lamp with assists credited to Alex Assab and Evan Bailly. About a minute and a half later McDonough scored his first goal of the night from the sticks of Clark and Palermo. An Enfield goal with 51 seconds left in the period closed out the first-period score at 3-2.
The second period saw quick Pacer goals from Andre Gallant (assisted by Kendall Walsh and Palermo) and Nolan Florence (assisted by McDonough) that were only 11 seconds apart. Enfield found the back of the net again before McDonough responded with his second goal to double up the visitors 6-3 heading into the final frame.
Enfield did find some offense in the third period, getting the game as close as 6-5 with eight and a half minutes to play but the Pacer defense stood tall until McDonough completed his hat-trick with a minute and a half to play, scoring an insurance goal (assisted by Clark) that would prove important since Enfield scored one final time with a minute to play.
The Pacers will next be on the ice on Saturday afternoon when they will travel to the Pittsfield Boys and Girls Club to faceoff against Wahconah Regional at 3:30 pm.
